Paper as a medium has always been reliable in everything it does. It is lightweight and easy to manufacture from readily available materials. There is little that can be held against it other than environmental repercussions. But still, this medium has proven its longevity since its invention during the ancient times. Whether it's for writing or folding planes with, paper has stayed alive all this time as a major part of the world.
But nowadays, it is not getting as much attention as computers and other related technologies. When it first came in, people started talking about paper becoming obsolete. However, it is within human nature to want something to actually hold in their hands, so digital formats won't be taking out paper anytime soon. There is still nothing better than flipping the page of a good book on a lazy afternoon, and not even e-books or portable readers can ever truly replace that experience.
The newer types of paper are now geared towards the green trend of saving the environment and conserving resources. Chlorine contents have been lowered and recycled paper is being utilized more. But we can't have illusions about it as paper itself is a biodegradable material, which means that whatever gets recycled are merely a fraction of what is rotted away. People are now able to go into a fit of rage for every tree chopped down to make a notebook, so paper mills are doing what they can to cater to this new way of looking at paper.
It must be said that it is not the elimination of paper itself that must be practiced, but the efficient use of it. The world still needs it, so we might as well put up with various theories and solutions to the problem of waste. You can do little things like writing on both sides, recycling immediately, using other media to record information, and so on. Perhaps they do go a long way to keep paper alive in this day and age.
Without paper, we would be more useless than other animal species. Well, perhaps that may be an exaggeration, but the importance of the material must never be understaded. Even our money is made out of paper, so it says a lot about its role in the world. We should think of new solutions to problems that may have paper demonized by the green crowd. Next to plastic, paper has always been the most useful substance to man.
We can take as many things for granted as we want, but we'll be absolutely sorry once we lose them. They say that paper should be long gone by now due to forests being destroyed and landfills overflowing. It has been nothing but helpful to human society, so we should make proper use of it instead of just throwing it in the garbage can just because it was either a receipt, unused tissue that you weren't going to use anyway, tax statements, subpoenas, and so on. Don't ruin it for other people and keep paper alive by reusing and recycling to conserve it.
